Odette was born in Toronto, Canada in 1960. She grew up based mainly in Sydney, Australia, and in 1984 traveled west to Fremantle, where she still lives today.
Photography my love
Although keenly interested in photography since a teenager, it was only with the advent of digital technology that Odette was to realise her passion.
"What I currently aim for with my photographs is for that experience where feelings and questions become merged, creating a sense of wonder that invites the viewer to look a bit harder, a bit longer, to capture images that do not answer questions but asks them, opening up a dialogue of inquiry and investigation."
With a hunger burning, Odette attended as many workshops and seminars as possible including Dale Neill on portraiture, a FotoFreo workshop weekend with Douglas Kirkland and a very challenging Magnum Workshop with Donovan Wylie to name just a few. However, "it was the seminar with Michael Coyne that really changed my life" she said looking back. "I had found my passion in photography but had no idea which direction to pursue. Michael's talk was incredibly inspiring and I realised I must learn the art of documentary/reportage photography. The storytelling qualities and purposefulness really struck a cord."
Odette undertook a 3 year photojournalism unit, (part of an arts degree) via online study at LaTrobe University, Bendigo in Victoria. "I never wanted it to end... so I stretched it out to 4 years....."
Odette's photography has taken her to Egypt, Japan and Indonesia, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Milan, Rome, Iran and the Antarctic region with more travel and photography planned....
A brief Timeline:
2006 - Exhibit at Ginos Cafe alongside works by Almin Fulurija. Odette's images were from a Bali holiday, made with her first digital camera, a 3 megapixel Olympus 1x10 zoom. "To this very day 10 years later (although I gifted it a few years ago) it remains my favourite camera. It's the one I first learned on at Rockingham TAFE in 2005."
2011 - 2014 - Photo-journalism unit online, LaTrobe University, Bendigo, VIC. completed with high honour marks.
2012 - Nominated for Ozzie Awards.

2014 - Odette was nominated for the Fifth Cycle of the Prix Pictet, "Consumption", for her body of work "The Business of Recycling" investigating the path of donated and secondhand clothing and its carbon footprint. This led her to London to attend the awards ceremony at the Victoria and Albert Museum, then followed by her European sojourn.
2014 - Works published in book Remembrance (The Five Mile Press). "This big amazing book was the creation of Julie Millowick, Head of Photojournalism Online at LaTrobe University, Bendigo. Julie involved some of her students in this book, of which I was one. I was proud to have images chosen by her for print."
